OUR MISSION
Helping immigrants, refugees and asylees achieve the dual goals of social and
economic independence in their new country.
The Institute for Immigrant Concerns was launched in May, 1997. Since its
inception, the Institute has provided services to over 2,500 refugees, asylees,
post-detention asylees and immigrants from over 90 countries.
The Institute provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, as well
as job preparation and placement. We help our highly-motivated students to
find their place in the worlds of business, the professions, education and
non-profit organizations.
OUR CLASSROOMS ARE GLOBAL VILLAGES
The Institute is one of the few city-wide ESL programs serving immigrants
from every borough and neighborhood. Our classrooms often have students
from 20 different countries. This cultural diversity helps our students to not
only acquire English skills, but also, to find common ground in their struggle
for social and economic independence.
